- First activity: So I think that we should look at all the labels we give ourself. Just that nothing more don't make it to complicated just think about or write out what labels you give yourself.
- My list: I am; an Occupational Therapist, Smart, a Volunteer, Caregiver, Sister, an Aunt, I am useless because I am injured, a daughter, an Artist, a Burden to society, Unworthy of the presence of friends or individuals in general as I am probably wasting there time. I would like to add I am willing to change these damaging thoughts. That's important if you aren't willing then whats the point of looking at these labels that would just be painful. Addition: I would also like to add that I feel that I am weak.
- Second activity: For the second activity if anyone is following I think maybe it might be good to just run with how you feel and/or label yourself. I think art is a perfect way to run with this. For me art is sewing and painting and beading and oh goodness any kind of art fuels me so for me I think I will create an oil painting depicting my current beliefs about how I feel and/or label myself. Other suggestions to explore this might be just write if you are into journaling, create a collage clip pictures of yourself or out of magazines or posters or from wherever that describe how you define yourself, use clay and make a sculputure. I guess I think that using some media whatever that is to explore these feelings will be freeing b/c I have learned that the act of engaging in something creative helps with the process of emotion. I promise this is going somewhere, I acutally have the next activity in mind I hadn't intended to post it until I was done with this first one but in case someone is interested I will go ahead and post it since the thought has come to me:)
- I promise to add a picture of my painting that I intend to work on this weekend. I can't promise it will be pretty but that isn't the point is it? If anyone is reading along with me and wants to email me a picture or something they have done regarding this topic I will also post that here.
- Third activity: So now I think it would be powerful to do something creative any medium like I said before, but this time I will and I want you to think about how you would want to define yourself if your bias did not exist. If you can't get rid of the bias regarding yourself yet think about ur daughter, son, neice nephew a friend think about how you see them and how you in your mind would define them as a person not for what they do but just the person. Remember art is powerful and comes in many forms don't be affraid to play with differnt kinds of art.
- I do not know what this activity will look like for me but maybe I will play with some polymer clay, or a painting whatever I do I will post a picture and will openly post other persons work if they want to share. Community is important and can create powerful healing when working on such a strongly ingrained issue.
- Create a self loving mantra or definition of who you are. Or how you would like to view who you are.
- My current mantra is in the process of creation but so far:
- I am ok as I am, I am enough, I do not need activities to define me, b/c who I am is enough, I am not defined by my activities or doing. Activities simply enrich me and allow me to share who I am with others and to learn who other people are. (im still working on this)
My Journey toward loving myself as just that and not the things I do. I aim to use this site to tackle topics that get in the way of loving ourselves and also discussing ways I or others might learn to love ourselves!
Activities to Learn Self Love
This page is all about practicing self love. I mean afterall if we don't practice accepting who we are or exploring it how on earth are we to believe we are enough. No worries we will move past this list but I think its important to look at how we define ourself.
